Planet

We’re contributing to a more sustainable planet through our lean and innovative supply chain, which aims to reduce food waste and carbon emissions, while focusing on packaging innovations and sourcing local ingredients.

  • Reducing food waste

Our make-to-order business model inherently supports the reduction of food waste at the point of consumption with customers. In a study, we found that HelloFresh customers waste 38% less food compared to a meal cooked with ingredients from a traditional supermarket. By using data monitoring software, we can also track, analyze and manage food waste from our operations. We donate unsold edible surplus food from our distribution centers to charities. In 2025, we donated nearly 8,700 tons of food to charity partners – representing 42% of our total food waste – to ensure surplus resources reach those in need.

  • Tracking and reducing carbon emissions

Results from our life cycle assessment show that meals from HelloFresh cause 25% less carbon emissions than meals with ingredients purchased from supermarkets. Yet we continue to challenge ourselves and make our highly optimized operations even more energy efficient by transitioning to renewable forms of energy such as solar, wind and hydropower.

  • Innovating packaging

In order to minimize our impact, we aim to avoid, reduce, recycle and innovate packaging wherever possible. We utilize our award-winning Dynamic Packaging Configurator (DPC), which uses metadata on shapes and dimensions of our ingredients to calculate the right packaging sizes with a volume-level approach for every customer order. The DPC also assigns the right insulation type, thickness and amount of ice needed to maintain food safety. Find out more here.

  • Sourcing responsibly

In 2025, we continued to require suppliers of aquaculture products to hold and maintain either ASC, BAP 2 stars and above, or GLOBALG.A.P. certification. For wild-caught fisheries products, we requested suppliers to have and maintain MSC certification. Overall, 98% of our total procured fish and seafood (by weight) for 2025 was sourced from suppliers holding certificates from one of these recognized schemes. In 2025, the HelloFresh Group also approved a new Global Sustainable Fish and Seafood Policy, which will be implemented in 2026. The global approach follows the recommendations of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program, or sources products eco-certified by trusted, independent programs such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), or GLOBALG.A.P.
